A small, written index of hotels, kept by people who would rather describe four properties properly than list four hundred badly.
Independent. Not a booking agent, not an affiliate scoreboard.
The premise
Most hotel directories are built for volume. They cover everything, describe nothing, and end up sounding identical because the descriptions were generated from the same fields. buildherfan.org goes the other way: four categories, four hotels in each, written as prose, revised when the facts move.
Why these four categories
Art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels have almost nothing in common except that each one refuses the default idea of what a hotel room is for. One turns the corridors into a gallery. One shrinks the room to a berth and spends the saved space on the shared floors. One attaches a licensed gaming floor to a conference hotel. One rebuilds the whole building out of frozen river water every December.
How entries are written
Every entry is written from the same starting question — what is it actually like to be a guest here — and then filled with the details that answer it: what the building was before, how the public rooms behave, what people come for other than the headline. We keep to characteristics that stay true over time rather than figures that go stale within a season.
What we do not do
No reviews, no star ratings, no scores, no reservations, no prices. We do not accept payment for inclusion and there is nothing to buy here. If a property is described here it is because it fits the category, not because anyone asked.
